Equipment Rollovers: Stay in the Seat

When a dozer, loader, tractor or forklift tips over, instinct says jump. That instinct kills. The rollover protective structure (ROPS) and seat belt are designed to keep you inside a protected space. Operators who jump are crushed by the machine or the ROPS itself.

ROPS and seat belts work together

If the machine starts to tip

  1. Stay in the seat with your belt on.
  2. Hold on firmly to the steering wheel or a handhold.
  3. Brace your feet.
  4. Lean away from the direction the machine is falling.

Don’t jump. A machine rolls faster than you can get clear, and it falls in the same direction you’re jumping. The safest place is buckled into the seat.
